Maxxis ATV Tires are legendary for their performance throughout
the entire Motorsports community and I wanted an aggressive mud
terrain ATV tire. I use my ATV for agricultural type applications as
well as trail riding and the aggressive mud tread generates
excellent pulling traction. The Maxxis Mud Bug ATV Tire offers both
the renowned performance of Maxxis and the mud tire traction but
isn’t as extreme as others on the market.
Where Did I Get Them?
I contacted Mike at Dicks ATV
to make the deal. Mike hooked me up with a stellar price so it was
set, I placed my order for the Mud Bugs and they were setting on my
deck in three days. My hat is off to Dicks ATV.
They provided down to Earth customer service, product expertise, and
VERY competitive pricing. Upon arrival the Mud Bugs were just as
promised, brand new, without blemish, and were well packaged in two
large boxes delivered by UPS.
What
I Got?
I chose to go with a 26/12/12 in the rear with 26/10/12 in the
front. The Maxxis Mud Bug 26 inch tires weigh in at a hefty 28.4lbs
and measured true to size at 26 inches on both the front and rear
tires. The tread measured in at nearly 1 ¼” and seemed very
aggressive.
Ride Quality
My first ride with the Mud Bugs was very impressive. To be such a
heavy and aggressive tire, they ride unbelievably smooth at any
speed above 5-6mph. They do get rough at speeds below that and are
also harder to turn at most speeds, but that is to be expected with
a mud tire of this caliber. How do they dig? Like a backhoe! They
just keep asking for more! The Mud Bugs are a very stable tire and
add a level of confidence when tackling a hill climb or mud hole and
there were many occasions when I was the only quad still running in
two wheel drive. I honestly can’t say enough good things about the
level of traction these tires provide.
The
durability of the Mud Bugs has impressed me thus far. The amount of
tread wear is not noticeable at 150+ miles. That isn’t a lot of
miles but these miles have not been easy. I tend to power slide a
lot and also goose it out of the turns and this has had very little
affect on the tires. They do have a few nicks from rocks and fallen
tree limbs, but none of these nicks even came close to a puncture.
There were a few times I worried that I would puncture a tire, but
the Bugs just kept digging right through it all.
Overall Opinion
All in all I would, and already have, recommended these tires. I
have made a few believers out of my riding crew and a few other
innocent bystanders. Because these tires have pulled me out, up, and
through technical and nasty terrain with plenty left over, I give
these tires my stamp of approval.
